III. Flight Patterns and Landing ProceduresVideo chapter on landing procedures
Presentation of landing patterns, wind direction, ground obstacles, off-airport landings and no-radio procedures
IV. Parachute Malfunction ProceduresVideo chapter on malfunctions
Updated video chapter on malfunctions
Discussions of situations such as: total, hard pull, handle in pouch, horseshoe, open container, and 2 canopies out
Parachute Landing Falls - (plf's)
V. Freefall InstructionVideotape presentation of AFF II and freefall control
Smooth and subtle, control between shoulders and thighs
VI. Airplane Exit ProceduresExit as a team; exit count that is visible and audible
VII. Neutral Arch and AwarenessNeutral control, heading awareness, buffeting and altitude
VIII. Freefall HandsignalsArch, legs out, altimeter, pull, legs up, relax (2), adjust arms (2), practice touches, hips down, come forward, stop, wave off, OK!
IX. Other Freefall Control PositionsForward Motion - upper body steers, lower body drives
Turns - Lower shoulders, not hands; legs out for drive
Fallrate Changes - Lower back adjustment; easier in the air
X. Out Of ControlBacksliding - Most common problem
Flat Spins - Caused by hips being up, and legs up too high
Tumbling - Arch hard, check altimeter
5 Second Rule in Freefall - Arch hard, try to regain stability for a count of 5. If you regain stability, check altimeter and go on with the skydive. If you do not regain stability, open the parachute - even if unstable!
Unforeseen Situations - Unstable exit, loss of instructor, loss of control, disorientation
XI. Parachute DeploymentTarget altitude to begin sequence - 4500' agl
Minimum altitude to pass - 3500' agl
Decision altitude - 2000' agl
